1. How Do I Become a Seller?

Once registered as a Buyer, in order to sell one has to register as a Seller. To become a Seller is very easy and is activated by going to Sell an Item. If you would like to accept other payment options as well as make use of the enhanced listing options, you will need to register as an Advanced Seller, which involves entering a guaranteed form of payment (VISA credit card). If you do not have a VISA credit card please email hello@bidorbuy.co.ke for assistance in becoming a seller (a manual approval process will have to be followed).

See more information on registering as a Seller.

2. How Do I Advertise on Crazy Wednesday ?

A Crazy Wednesday Paid Promotion is an Auction item charged at KSh10 per listing that opens between noon Tuesday and closes before midnight Wednesday for all items that start with KSh1 no reserve. bidorbuy will then promote your item on a Wednesday through the Home Page, Crazy Wednesday Page and may appear in newsletters sent to thousands of subscribers to ensure traffic and better sales prices for items listed as Crazy Wednesday Paid Promotions. To have your items appear on the Crazy Wednesday page you will need to ensure:

  • A Paid Promotional Listing must be selected (KSh10 per Listing) when creating your listing.
  • Your item must start and end between noon (midday) on a Tuesday and before midnight on a Wednesday.
  • Your item must be a Crazy Auction (starting at KSh1 with No Reserve).

View the Crazy Wednesday Paid Promotion Page, note that your items may not appear right away on this page, but should do so within 30 minutes as this page gets regenerated by the system.

Please remember, if your item only sells for KSh1, you have to sell it at that price, you may not refuse to honour the transaction, nor delete or cancel the listing if your item does not go higher than KSh1 or it does not get the price you were hoping for.

3. How Long Will It Take for Items to Be Sold on the Site?

This is very much dependant on your listing and the type of item you are selling, including the description, images or photo's used and the selling price. It may also depend on the type of product being sold. For example, consumer electronic goods will generally sell faster than antique collectible goods. It is vital that your listing is accurate in terms of the description, attractive in terms of the layout and overall appearance. The use of images or photos will also help to sell your item. Listings can be open for a few hours, days or several weeks (auctions a maximum of 21 days, whilst Classifieds can be open for 32 days maximum).

Popular items can have shorter durations whilst larger, more expensive items would probably require longer durations, maybe weeks before they are sold. Remember, a Buy Now item can be bought immediately, whereas an Auction will have a pre-defined opening and closing time and may end some time after a bid has been placed. If you are not sure or do not have any idea on how long to leave your listing open for, have a look at other Sellers selling the same or similar items, this can guide you when you decide to list your items.

4. How Do I Add Images in the Description Box?

In order to add an image in the description box, please click on the Insert/Edit Image icon on the HTML Editor (located at the top left hand corner of the HTML Editor tool bar - the icon with the mountain and sun in it).

Click Browse to select the image files you have stored on your PC/Camera, once the image is located please click the Upload button to upload the selected file/s. You will be able to see your image in the preview box. Click on the OK button at the bottom of the box for the image to be added to the description box (depending on your screen resolution, this button may not always be visible, so in order to add the image, simply press your Enter key).

Should you wish to add multiple images, simply repeat the above process.

5. Buyer Has Not Made Payment Or Is Not Contactable, What Do I Do ?

We generally recommend 7 days for a transaction to be completed, if however after multiple attempts you have not been able to contact the buyer and the buyer continues to avoid any contact with you after the 7 day period or has not made payment for the item, we suggest that you file a SNC (Sale Not Complete). A SNC can only be filed after 7 days from the closure of the listing. Once this process follows its course and the Buyer does not respond or still fails to complete the transaction, you will be credited your success fees back and will have the opportunity to rate the Buyer negatively for non payment (dependant on the outcome of the SNC). Please attempt to make contact with the Buyer first, either via telephone or email, before filing the SNC. Non paying Buyers can also be reported to bidorbuy for further investigation or action against them, simply email us at hello@bidorbuy.co.ke.

7. How Do I List Multiple Items - Bulk Listing Or Uploading?

Bulk Upload is one of the tools available to bidorbuy Sellers. It is a great tool for those Sellers who wish to list many items at once. You can upload items in bulk with the help of a csv sheet, which is basically an Excel spreadsheet template by following these steps:
  • Make sure you are registered as an Advanced Seller.
  • Download a CSV Sample Spreadsheet
  • Fill in all the details and save the sheet as a csv file on your computer
  • Go to 'My bidorbuy' and click on the 'Seller View' link.
  • In the 'Sell Items' section of 'Selling View', and click on BulkLoad Items.
  • Click on the 'Browse' button.
  • Select the csv file from your computer.
  • Click on the 'Upload' button to send the file to bidorbuy.
  • If you make mistakes on the csv sheet, you will receive error messages once you have uploaded the file. The error messages will reveal the mistakes that you have made in each line. Correct these mistakes and upload the entire sheet again.

For more details on bulk uploading please see the Bulk upload section on Listing an Item page and take note of the tip for using the pick list to generate your initial csv file.

8. Add to Pick list - How Does It Work?

There is now a new Seller tool available to quickly relist previously listed items using a web interface. The feedback we have had from Sellers is that this is particularly useful for listing Crazy Wednesday, Snap Friday and Weekend Special items where they tend to list the same items every week, but it can also be used to relist any items.

To make use of this functionality follow these steps:
  • Go to any of your listings pages accessible from in My bidorbuy e.g. Closed Items.
  • Select all the items you want to relist in bulk by clicking on “Add to Pick List” (under the “Actions” column on the far right).
  • Once you have added all the items to your pick list that you want to relist, click on the View Pick List Items link on the top left of the page.
  • Select the checkboxes for all the items you want to relist.
  • Select the open and close times to apply to all the items you have selected to relist.
  • If necessary, select the option to “Override Original Enhancements” if you do not want the original enhancement settings to be carried over to your newly relisted items.
  • Click on the button “Relist Selected Items”.
  • If there are any errors these will be highlighted on the confirmation page. You will either need to remove items with errors from the list or correct the errors before being able to complete the bulk relisting process by clicking on “Save Listings”.
  • Be sure to double check the applicable enhanced listing fees before saving your listings.
You can also use the same pick list to generate a csv (Excel) file that can be edited and then uploaded to the bidorbuy system thereby listing items in bulk.

9. Can I Delete a Bid?

  • The bid price is above the recommended retail price of the item.
  • The Buyer has placed bids on multiple similar items.
  • The Buyer has asked for the bid to be deleted.
  • The Buyer has not fulfilled any of your previous auctions.
  • The Buyer has received negative feedback previously from another Seller for non-fulfillment.

10. Viewing Your bidorbuy Account Statement Online

You may view a detailed statement by logging into your bidorbuy account area via My bidorbuy, select the Selling tab and under the Fee Management section on the left hand menu, you will find the option called Fee Account History. Select this option and choose the date range you wish to view your detailed bidorbuy statement for.
