It¿s About Time you Upgrade

Is your computer slow? Would you like a faster one with one simple upgrade? If you¿ve answered ¿yes¿ to these questions the answer could be an upgrade to your internal hard drive.

Traditionally, the hard drive in both desktop and laptop computers has been a hard disk variety, that is to say a device with spinning disks that stores information magnetically.  More recently, the traditional hard drive has been challenged by solid state drives (SSDs), which contain large capacity memory chips instead of the spinning disks.

Let¿s take a look at the top 5 internal hard drives that can give your computer a boost.

If you are looking to upgrade your laptop then the Samsung 840 Pro, a solid state drive, is a great option. Although it is reasonably expensive, it is super fast and comes in capacities from 64GB up to 512GB. It has the added benefit of being very efficient and, being an SSD, it is extremely quiet.

Less expensive, the Corsair Neutron GTX is another good choice for your laptop. It has a maximum capacity of 240GB (a 120GB version is also available) and is extremely fast, thanks to a radical new LAMD LM87800 controller.

A Seagate Momentus XT (second generation) is another option. It¿s a mixture of an SSD and a conventional hard drive, with 8GB of flash memory coupled to a regular disk drive to give a total capacity of 750GB. This gives you lightning fast boot time and application loading, but data transfer speed, once up and running, is comparable to a normal disk drive.

Offering performance almost equal to other SSDs, but at a lower price, the Transcend SSD720 is a good compromise between speed and cost. The unit is available in capacities ranging from 64GB up to 512GB and, while it is in standard laptop size of 2.5-inches and 7mm thick, it does come with a drive bay converter to enable it to fit in a desktop.

If you¿re determined to stick with a pure disk drive unit and leave SSDs alone, then the WD VelociRaptor WD1000DHTZ is a great choice. While most disk drives spin at 7,200 rpm, this model races around at 10,000 rpm, giving it performance almost up there with an SSD. It has a massive 1TB capacity, but unlike the other drives mentioned, it can only fit in a desktop machine, it¿s just too thick for a laptop at 16mm.
So, as the saying goes, you pays your money and makes your choice. All these drives will give you a huge boost in performance for a relatively simple upgrade. The choice is yours!
